From Loin Cloth to Leather: The Guild Wars Armor System
Perhaps it's just me. Perhaps it's my 1-hr a day playtime. Or perhaps it's the fact that I'm simply saturated by pretty girls.
But the armor system is seriously lacking in explanation, implementation, and statistics.
By that, I mean to say: When I see a certain amount of armor on a piece of armor, and add up that armor to form the set, what exactly is that number telling me? My knowledge, as it stands, states that more armor means more protection from damage. I've been taught to think of armor as a condom, with Warriors having Trojans and Elementalists having saran wrap. But this really doesn't tell me what I want to know... because when I'm going up against a 25% armor piercing pussy... cat... I need to know how much that's going to pierce. Let's be honest, I don't want any holes here, that's dangerous! I need NUMBERS. Does my warrior armor set have 50% damage reduction? 30%? What about my Necro? 22%, maybe? Is that 25% armor pierce REALLY gonna be worth it? These are just examples here, don't go answering all these questions, I'll just find more... there are so many things I come across in-game that I'd like to have more exact statistcs for, it pains me.
The armor system carries no weight. I feel unprotected. I feel exposed. Naked. Is there a reason I'm getting pelted with this damage from certain spells? Yes, and I know there is, but I don't know how much more damage a fully-specced Ele will be doing to me with his pierce spells. And I feel like I could really focus my build more if I knew precisely what was going on in his head. Is it worth it to interrupt that spell, or should I let him slam it on me, but f*** over it's cooldown? Hmmm... This is where I need those numbers. I don't want any little tadpoles to slip through the wholes in this baby and cause me trouble.
